Huntington County Leadership Academy Projects

Class of 2007

Communication & Technology

With partnerships from the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce, this project team planned and executed a mayoral forum held May 1, 2007.  The event was open to the public.  Team members were: Heather Barkley, Jim Griffith, Michelle Hogan and Mandy Reber.

Economic Development

To educate and inform as many people as possible in and around Huntington County by creating a 30-60 second advertisement.  With this advertisement, they hope to help Huntington Community grow by showing other communities and residents what our community has to offer.  Members are Jeremy Lambert and Jason Meyer.

Education

Create a Huntington County Preschool Directory so there is one source readily available for people to review.  Information will work in conjuction with a current website offered in the community.  Members are Beth Jarrett, Abby Allison, Edette Eckert and Derek Dyer.

Empowering Humanity

Seek money from the community to support the purchasing of books to be distributed at the local Hospital to new parents.  The books would contain literature and a bookmark educating on the implications of reading to your child.  Members are Brooke Aschliman, Kristi Bowman, Cecelia Ellet and Josh St. John.

Class of 2006

Arts, Beautification and Leisure

Beautify Sunken Gardens with a Butterfly garden, improve arbor and other flowerbeds on upper level in coordination with Parks Department.  Members: Lisa Hockemeyer, Erin McCord, Stephanie Bailey and Kathy Ankenbruck.

Communication & Technology

Produce a booklet that lists volunteer opportunities that are currently available.  This booklet would then be distributed to a target audience, including town halls, local agencies, and youth groups.  Brochure to inform of volunteering options.  Members: Becca Lamon, JoAnne Kirchner and Jason Parsons.

Economic Development

Give HCL a true assessment of the impact the Academey's had on its graduates.  Establish a mentor prgram for HCL graduates to support them in finding opportunities throughout Huntington County to network and volunteer.  Members: Susan Frantz, Tiffaney Drummond and John Ulrich.

Education

Persuade future Huntington residents to remain in the community and contribute their time and talent as productive citizens.  Plan to accomplish this by preparing a PowerPoint presentation and making it available to the local community, primarily where it is likely to be seen by high school students.  Members: Regina Harrison, Bradley Price, Tamera Kline and Matt Grantham.

Empowering Humanity

Raise awareness of McKenzie's Hope by distributing calendars to the schools with positive parenting tips for the month of April, participation in FunFest in April to distribute information on child abuse awareness and facts how to raise healthy familes.  Members: Lisa Garrott, Cathy Gray, Karen Kippert, Cathy Rumler and Gina Simon.

The structure of the community projects changed in 2006 and therefore are categorized differently then previous Academy sessions.

Fam Fest

Work with the Huntington County Library to help organize and provide structure for a College Reference Section.

Financial Literacy - enhance the current program and provide curriculum for the the business department for Huntington North Junior and Senior classes.

Improve Huntington Drive In

Increase attendance at the Dan Quayle Center

Promote Abstinence Awareness

Develop a program which would inform members of the community about scams.
